When my first son was born in 2013, I knew it was my chance to make a difference in our life and in the world – and this feeling became even stronger when my second son was born in 2014. Despite most of our efforts in terms of feeding them a healthy diet, both of them developed serious health problems like asthma for the oldest and eczema for the youngest. We could not ignore these issues so we started doing some research on our own, trying to eliminate the problems completely as opposed to just fixing them temporarily with medicine. We came across the various negative sides of dairy and started changing our diet. As we kept doing research, we came across Forks Over Knives, and Cowspiracy, and eventually Earthlings. It was a big turning point in our life, we were enlightened. My husband and I realized that if we wanted to give our kids a better life, a brighter future, we had to not only „teach“ them values, but also show them. If my goal is to raise my kids to feel empathy, shouldn’t I show them what empathy looks like? And how can I „show“ them empathy if I still partake in the biggest torture scheme of the modern world? We live in Tahiti, and virtually everything of animal origin is imported. Going Vegan and emphasizing local produce was also a way to do my part in helping the environment.
I went vegan I have found that I am more at peace with myself. My action match the way I think, and I can communicate these values from my heart. I started and IG account where I share my lifestyle with everyone out there, as well as a Facebook recipe page where people can see that we do not just eat salad, and maybe feel inspired. I believe that leading by example and raising awareness are the best ways we can help make the world a better place. Humans are born out of love and are naturally wired to feel empathy and kindness. If we want our world to become better, if we want our children to do better than we did, veganism and its values are exactly what we need to spread.
