My name is mia, I’m 21 and from a little place called Omagh in Northern Ireland but I am currently in studying in Nottingham I wanted to become vegetarian for a long time but just always thought I could never give up meat. I randomly gave cowspiracy a watch and as cheesy as it sounds it changed my whole lifestyle, I stopped eating meat there and then and it was so easy. It took me longer to become vegan, almost a year as i felt it was just too restrictive.

I decided to slowly educate myself on everything about becoming vegan from my diet to my belongings. On New Year’s Day of this year I went vegan and I every hurdle I thought I would have to overcome just didn’t exist. There’s so many options, it’s not overly expensive and I feel like my health has improved including mentally (but do still take your meds). I use to think I loved animals but you simply cannot if you take part in their abuse. I use to think one person doesn’t make a difference but you can. I felt a little lost with no hobby or drive but I believe through veganism I’ve finally found something I’m passionate about and the opportunities it has given me are endless As I come from a rural farming community where agriculture is extremely important it’s been hard explaining to close friends as they see it as offending their way of life, that’s probably what I’ve struggle most with whilst being vegan

I know it will take time, compassion and determination but I do believe some day the world will be vegan and it will be a better place because of it
