I was a meat eater all of my life. If I had a choice, my plate wouldn’t have any vegetables on it. In hindsight, I was a fool who didn’t make the connection between what was on my plate and the animals it came from. The cognitive dissonance was real.

In April 2016 my wife came across the ‚Dairy is Scary‘ video by Erin Janus and showed me. We were both disgusted and the video eventually led us to watch ‚Earthlings‘. I remember feeling my mindset change as I watched the movie. We had always considered ourselves animal lovers, but how on earth could I continue to say the same when I contributed to the horrors that animals faced daily? Once the movie finished I went into the kitchen and threw away all of our meat and fish we had.

It took me a few months – until September – to become fully vegan. I had to get to grips with something so life changing and there was so much to learn, but life changing it was. I lost weight, felt full of energy and had a much cleaner conscience. I’ve also learnt so much, about the health and the environmental benefits.

Since then my family has become vegan too, and I couldn’t be prouder. We’re living a life that is compassionate, healthy and contributing in our little way to save the planet.
