I went vegan in November 2016 after struggling an eating disorder and restrictive eating for over a decade. Before I went vegan, I was eating the typical „bro diet“ (high in protein) that is usually promoted in the weight lifting community while also counting every macro nutrient that went into my body. It was torturous and left me feeling isolated, miserable and starving.
Just a few months before I went vegan I was experiencing extreme pain in my stomach, fatigue and was always bloated. Doctors ran tests and suggested medication for IBS, but that was all. I knew there had to be a wholesome solution and started doing my own research. I decided to eat vegan for a weekend just to see if it would help, and it did, it was pure magic. My energy levels were through the roof, I could think clearly and my stomach pains slowly vanished.
I am so thankful, I found a way of eating that nourishes me. Veganism healed my mind, body, and soul. It gave me purpose. It is so much more than a way of eating, it’s a decision to live a life filled with love, respect and compassion for all sentient beings. The last thing I want to say is that if you’re reading this and are struggling with an eating disorder, you are not alone.
Veganism can truly heal you, it may take weeks, months or years but healing yourself from the inside out is what it’s all about.
