I went 22 years living on this earth following the Canada food guide. Its what my parents knew, its what were taught in school. You get calcium from milk. You get protein from meat. And you have to eat 8-10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day but they never really explained why…for vitamins and stuff was all I ever heard… Like that’s helpful to a 10 year old.

Last year my younger sister went vegetarian and before I knew it I followed suit. Her meals were just so much better than what I’d been eating before. It wasn’t a moral change, it was just an experiment to see if i could go meat less and I loved it! Even my doctor said eating a vegetarian diet was barely a change.

Enter education. About two months ago, after hearing more and more about veganism I finally asked the most important question: why no dairy and eggs as well as no meat? I mean, as a loving, emotional human being I could totally understand the reasons for giving up meat as its murder. But all those happy little dairy cows and egg laying chickens; what was wrong with that??

It’s a harsh reality. One I wish I could have understood a long time ago. I went vegan over night and spent the next two weeks crying myself to sleep after watching documentary after documentary of the true abuse that happens. The fact that these films and footage are so accessible and yet I’m still living in a mostly meat eaters world completely baffles me. It’s important when choosing this lifestyle to help educate the people in your life.

My best friend had gone vegan, my sister had gone vegetarian. These girls influenced me to discover a more cruelty free way of living. Lots of my close friends and family are highly interested when I tell them all about what I’ve learned.

Others aren’t as receptive. But I’m extremely committed to this SIMPLE lifestyle. (No its not impossible to cut out cheese and no it’s no more expensive than a standard Canadian diet.)

I hope that I can help spread the message.

Vegan for life xo.
