I was raised eating the Standard American Diet or worse. Consuming fast food several times a week and rarely incorporating any fruits or veggies. I honestly thought it was the norm to eat out and feel crappy all the time. I never ever thought in my wildest dreams I would be vegan. I had a close friend that was vegan and I always thought how crazy it was to not eat meat and dairy. When a family friend recommended that we watch Cowspiracy we finally decided we should.

My husband and I cried and just couldn’t believe what was happening to our world and these poor animals. Right after that, Netflix recommend Vegucated and we watched that just in awe of what a plant based diet could do for our health. Right after we finished these two documentaries we looked at each other and said we couldn’t eat meat, dairy or eggs anymore.

We got up and threw all of our animal based food in the garbage. Since that day, November 1st, 2015 we haven’t looked back and we continue to learn everyday. We went vegan for the animals and we haven’t ever felt this good. In a little over a year in a half I have lost 30lbs and kept it off which is huge for me. My weight has continually fluctuated since before high school. I have tried so many diets and always focused so much on my weight. Since becoming vegan and making that conscious connection- everything has changed. Instead of worrying about my weight I have begun to love my body where I am at.

I feel like I love myself more because of the love and compassion that I have for all life by being vegan. Being vegan isn’t a diet to me. It is a whole new way of being and living. I am so grateful to be on this journey and it has just started for me. I love that my heart is more open today and I am so grateful that I get to thrive living on plants.
