Hi, I’m David.
My vegan story started October of 2016, the day of my knee surgery. Weeks leading up to the surgery I researched ways on how to speed up the healing process. That’s when I came across the book titled, „The China Study,“ by T. Colin Campbell, which explained why a plant based diet is superior. Not only did I surpass my doctor’s expectations but mine also. My blood pressure dropped to a healthier range and my cholesterol went from 222 to 145 in four months. I was sold! Right then I knew I would be an idiot to go back to my old habits.
Even though I originally became vegan due to health reasons, doing it for the animals and the environment soon followed. We all say we love animals but it’s hypocritical to say that while stuffing your face with a rib-eye. I have a quote about veganism that says, „It’s murder/suicide. Murder for the animals and suicide for me.“
Those who follow me on Instagram know I’m open about being a Police Officer. The reason I’m transparent about it is to wipe out the stereotype of what a vegan looks like. People, for some reason, are under the impression we have leaves growing out of our ears and carry around a magic wand that can make flowers grow at will. Sorry to disappoint but we are cops, fire fighters, boxers, musicians, yogis, singers, actors, construction workers, bodybuilders, etc. At the same time, I’m also wiping out the stereotype of what a cop is supposed to be like. In other words, I’m feeding two vegans with one apple.
One of the biggest issues I see in the vegan community is some are quick to judge, especially towards non vegans. We have to remember that, unless you were born vegan, we have all had a piece of dead flesh in our mouths. Give that person time to make the right choice…to find their „reason.“ Encourage them instead of berate them. If anyone has questions or needs help in becoming vegan, please reach out to me. I’m happy to help.
One of the best experiences I’ve found with the vegan community is we are truly a community. From restaurants to vegfests and everything in between, the majority of us raise each other up. It’s a beautiful life I encourage everyone to live. You’ll be happy for it, the animals will be happy for it and this earth we all share will be happy for it.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey. I wish you all the best with yours!
Much love and abundance,
David
