This summer I celebrate 3 years of being a vegan and I only wish I had started younger!

There were several roads that all converged at the same time for me that led to my decision to go from vegetarian to vegan- the death of my father to heart attack, studying nutrition (which educated me in the multitude benefits of plant based diets), finally owning my own home with my husband and reading about the dairy and egg industries in depth for the first time.

Since making the shift I feel my life revolves so much more around compassion in general- towards all animals, people, the environment and the ecosystems of this incredible planet. Veganism is such a positive movement in every way, knowing that you are being as kind as possible far outweighs any inconveniences being ‘different’ throws at you. One of my favorite things is cooking vegan meals for friends and family – little by little I see them making more vegan choices and that’s from enjoying trying new things, not from pressure.

I love the way veganism is sweeping across the planet, here in the UK we are now 7% vegan – that really is progress! I hope I will see veganism be completely mainstream in my lifetime but for now, I’m happy to be riding the wave of change this planet so desperately needs.
